HBO MAX'S Gossip Girl Reboot: What We Know And What You Should Expect

CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE ORIGINAL GOSSIP GIRL SERIES

Hey there Upper East Siders, if you haven’t heard the news, a brand new Gossip Girl is coming soon to HBO Max. According to all HBO Max socials who posted a brand-new teaser for the new era of Gossip Girl and those living on the Upper East Side which is set to premiere on the popular streaming service July 8th.

The trailer began with the chillingly familiar Gossip Girl narrator (Kristen Bell) who warned the new cast of scandalous teens that though time has passed, Gossip Girl just cannot be killed.

So, where did the original Gossip Girl leave off? Well, in the series finale entitled, “New York, I Love You, XOXO” Blair and Chuck were in a race against time to get married in attempt to deal with the aftermath of Bart Bass’ death. After the wedding, the age-old secret was revealed, and Dan Humphrey (Penn Bagdley) made it known that in attempt to fit in with the fast-paced Upper East Side lifestyle he created and took on the identity of Gossip Girl. The show then ended with a five-year jump into the future where we attended the wedding of Serena Van Der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Dan.

According to Deadline, the new Gossip Girl reboot will take place eight years after the final Gossip Girl posting and will star a brand-new cast of all-star Upper East Siders, however, since this is the same Upper East Side that was graced by presences of iconic characters such as Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), Chuck Bass (Ed Westick), and Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) we are bound to wonder if we’ll see any familiar faces in the new series. Though no character cameo or reappearances are confirmed just yet, in a 2019 interview with Entertainment Weekly Chace Crawfrod said, “I just love Josh and Stephanie (the creators behind the original Gossip Girl series)and if they wanted me to come and do anything it would be hard to say no.” so perhaps Nate Archibald will sit at the MOMA steps once more, or at least stop by and say hello.

Attached to the reboot are some names you might recognize such as that of Emily Alyn Lind whose expansive resume includes films ranging from Dear Dumb Diary (2013) to Lights Out (2016). Lind is set to play Audrey Hope, a leading character who’s wondering what lies on the horizons outside of her long-term relationship.

Zion Moreno from the TNT series Claws is tied to the project as well, playing a character named Luna La.

Whitney Peak from Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is also set to play a leading role named Zoya Lott, alongside Catherine the Great’s Matthew Doherty who will be playing a character named Max Wolfe. Other names set to appear in the reboot are that of Savannah Smith, Tavi Gevinson, Evan Mock, Jason Gotay, Johnathan Fernandez, and Eli Brown.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage who were showrunners on the original Gossip Girl have also signed on to the reboot, so we can expect the classic Gossip Girl energy this time around.

Whether or not you decide to tune in to the new Upper East Side, we can still expect for Gossip Girl to give us all the dirty details.
